I was wondering if anyone in zone 6 has a Halls Hardy Almond? I have seen it listed as up to zone 5 in one place and another place will say up to zone 7. I am guessing it will live, but probably not thrive in zone 6. Any input would be welcome especially if you have one of these almond trees. I am excited after a year of dreaming about how I am going to go about planting trees this fall I finally am ready to start.
Mine in southern zone 5/upper zone six (central Indiana) seem to be thriving. They're heading into their third winter and I'm hoping that they not only survive but also produce some nuts! They haven't shown any signs of problems with the cold. The drought this year didn't do them any favors, but I watered them fairly regularly to get them through.
I think they should do well in zone 6, all things being equal (soil quality, moisture, etc.).
I live in Northeast Pennsylvania zone 6. I planted two Halls Hardy Almond trees in the fall of 2006. This will be their second winter. They're both doing well.
