Autumn Blaze Maple - is this a good place for it?

We bought an Autumn Blaze Maple. We want to place it near our driveway. I placed it about 20' from the electric pole, and about 15' from the driveway. Would you take a look at the pictures and see if this is an ideal placement?

    Thanks for the help!!

It seems to be a great place for it. Just be sure you follow the planting instructions and get the wire basket and burlap off of the tree before planting. Also, be sure the root flare (the part of the trunk that just starts getting wider toward the roots) is about 1" above ground level. Don't assume the tree was planted at the proper depth at the nursery. Remove a bit of soil around the trunk to find the flare with your fingers.
Also, when you remove the burlap, use sharp and clean (bleach) pruning shears to trim any roots that may have been damaged during transplant. Also remove any roots that appear to be growing in a circle around the root ball. These will continue in a circle and are not beneficial to the tree's health.

    How to Transplant:

You should also get as many trees going as soon as possible to save on air conditioning and heating bills.

Thank you so much for the quick answer!! I was waiting before I started digging for a reply so I'd know what to do.

I totally agree. We have a few trees along our fenceline, but nothing to block any wind. We had lots of shingles blown off saturday. I've got 6 Hybrid Poplars and 1 Hybrid Elm ordered for the north side of the property. I'm getting a Silk Tree (Mimosa) shortly for the front yard.

    Thanks,
    Jamie

With no disrespect to PWK, I would plant the Autumn blaze maple 30' from any structure. All the sites I'm looking at say they will have a mature crown anywhere from 30' to 45'.

You might find this site helpful for tree placement for windbreaks and shade. This first site also gives distance recommendations for planting trees near utility wires.

I'm surprised that mimosa is still sold as it's an invasive species in so many areas, including Oklahoma. It's the second one on this list.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thanks for the links. I thought about that, the tree tag said it gets about a 40' spread. So that would give about 20' space on each side.

Yep, Mimosas are considered invasive because they reseed like crazy. That's where I'm getting mine from, my Grandmother occasionally leaves one that has reseeded in and lets it grow for someone to take. I think they're gorgeous trees.

    Thanks,
    Jamie

Jamie, you are so very welcome! Glad those links were helpful.

So knowing they are invasive where you live, may I suggest other pretty trees that will feed the wildlife and not do damage to the envirnonment?

I don't quite understand how a 50' spread (25' on each side of the trunk) is going to affect the house which is about 60' away. I must have missed something.

I was thinking he meant the structure was the electric pole. I did put the tree 25' from the electric pole.

That's true. However, you can prune a tree away from a power line fairly easily with the removal of a branch or two and the single line to your house isn't as big of a deal as the neighborhood supply. Something like a redbud or crab may be a better choice than the maple if you want to plant it right next to the power source.
