Sharing some pics of one of my favorite places to be, just below wambaw swamp wilderness in Francis Marion National Forest. Decided to go up there on an archery hunt last saturday. While I did not see any deer or hogs, I was able to enjoy plenty of nature, including some very nice trees. Some of the trees along this swamp have been saved from logging for many years, I'm glad I am able to sneak down there and admire them. The laurel, water, and willow oaks are all starting to drop acorns now. I was able to listen to quite a few laurel oak acorns hitting the ground and see some hungry squirrels enjoying them.
I have seen some bigger ones down there, but this is a good sized red oak of some kind.
Next pic is of a double trunked, massive and tall tree. Not exactly sure what kind of tree this was. Definitely was not an oak. The leaves were so high up, they seemed rounded from what I could tell. Leaves resembled black gum, but would have expected a more swollen trunk if it was a black gum.
Loblolly pine
Very large bald cypress
lol, we are apparently limited to 4 pics, had to go back and edit this big time.
no leaves/nuts. honestly, if i stopped for more than 15 seconds, the mosquitoes would have sucked me dry. i will go back after it cools down a bit. i got a good idea where that tree was. we went on a family excursion today to francis beidler forest. one of the largest tracks of old growth swamp around here, next too congaree. will post some pics soon.
