  1. RE: Winter Dessication on Norway Spruce/White Spruce

The snow has melted down far enough on one of the white spruce wear I can see the green needles.
What do you suggest using to cover the trees?
Next year I'll know wear to put the snow fence to...
  2. RE: Winter Dessication on Norway Spruce/White Spruce

No road salt here. The DOT just uses sand.
I did a little "scratch" test on the bark. They are juicy and green underneath the bark. So I'm hopeful they will come back.
    I really do believe...
  3. Winter Dessication on Norway Spruce/White Spruce

I planted 5 Norway and White Spruce trees last fall. They are all 2-3' tall. All winter long they looked nice and healthy. Today I looked at them and all except one is barren of needles.
    At first...

    RE: Red Maple

I should've proofread my message first. I had my mind on oak but was inquring about the maple.

I will have 13 new trees planted on my property that has no trees. They are all potted and are between 2-5' tall. I want to protect them from some of the winter winds and add a nice snowpack around...

RE: Manure as fertilizer on lawns/trees

Well after doing some research locally here.
Our soils tend to have plenty of nitrogen....so I'm thinking I may steer clear of that option when it comes to fertilizing the lawn.

    Plant now or wait?

For my birthday my wife got me/us two trees to plant on our new land.
One is Scots Pine over 3' tall, the other a 2-3' Austrian Pine. Both are from the local nursery in town and are potted.
    The...

RE: Numbers on mail order plants

What do you guys think of this?
I spoke with someone who runs a tree nusery, that sells bare root, B&B, and potted trees.
As an example, they had trees for sale of the same height that were both...

RE: Numbers on mail order plants

Why do they transplant them? I guess I'm curious as to how these numbers would affect my buying decisions...

    Numbers on mail order plants

What do the numbers in parentheses mean beside the trees listed in mail order or internet nurseries? ie. (2-0),(2-1),(3-3), etc...

    Manure as fertilizer on lawns/trees

If I'm going to use manure as a fertilizer for my lawn. What would be the best time of year to help the trees, shrubs, and lawn? I only plan on using it at the most twice a year.
    Thanks,
    Mark

RE: Newly planted Bur Oak and Tuliptree
