View Full Version : Need some help with tree identification in Georgia #4 (on trip to Arizona)

I spent several days in Scottsdale, AZ over the Thanksgiving holiday. Needless to say, the flora in that part of the country is quite a bit different than what this Georgia boy has seen before.

Of particular note were several different ornamental trees scattered throughout the apartment complex at which I stayed. Here is the first one.

The tree has no bark, and the color of the wood is even redder than shown in these pictures taken with a flash at night. Also, the leaves and leaflets look a lot like rosemary (the spice).

I'm guessing that it's a desert willow (Chilopsis linearis), but I'm probably not correct.

Ok, I got an answer for this over at forestryforum.com.....

It is Red Gum Eucalyptus.

Apparently, it is a very hard and desirable lumber species.

Well, maybe not.

Now the consensus is that this is not Red Gum Eucalyptus.

More to come.
