View Full Version : Cedar from southern Chile

I recently visited southern Chile and would like to import to Canada a tree I saw there that looks different from our local cedars.

Here are two pics to help with identification. If you google "punta arenas" and "cemetary" you will see more pictures of these trees.

Thanks for your help in identifying the species!

Monterey cypress (Cupressus Macrocarpa) that are trimmed.

Here is a Monterey cypress in Tawa that is called the Bucket Tree:

Oh my. That looks like a giant mushroom.

That species is likely to be rather finicky in terms of its preferred climate. Where in Canada are you?

Thanks for the tip Treeman. I guess it's the trimming that makes the difference.

As for where I live... on the Island of Montreal. I would think my climate is sufficiently similar for it to thrive?

Thanks all.
