I have several trees in my backyard and most of them have several very dry branches on them. I've lived here about 4 years now and several of these branches have already fallen.

I took these pictures hoping they'd help.

This first tree is one I just cut down last week. It had a couple dry branches as well. When the tree hit the ground, it broke in half. This particular branch is about 10" in diameter. I found it very odd and when I looked at it, I could see it seemed it was being eaten inside. The inner inch or so is very soft and wet.

In these other pictures you can see the dry branches I'm speaking of. There's several on most trees and some of them are quite large.

Now my question is, are these trees diseased, do they all need to be cut down, or is there something that can be done.

If anyone has any idea what kind of trees they are, what's wrong with them or any advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

It looks like a oak in the red oak group. We would need a close up of the leafs and maybe the acorns also to tell what kind of oak it is. I don't know what has happened to it.
