hi, anybody able to help me identify this tree? i took the leaves from a tree in an area of deciduous woods in western new yorkn (chautauqua county) , near the p.a. line. the leaves seen in the picture are about 7 inches long, and the pink/purple flower or fruit part (i can't tell exactly what it is) is about 2 inches long. i believe the bark of the tree was smooth. The flower/fruit part is solid and it has a plastic feel to it. it looks as if it will eventually open up, but right now it is a closed up, solid piece. thank you!

I'm gonna guess Cucumbertree a.k.a. Cucumber Magnolia (Magnolia Acuminata).

I agree with Magnolia, but I think it looks more like saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangiana).
