ok.. sorry, but i don't have any pictures.
so here's what it looks like:
serrated edges.
only one tip.
has a purplish/red trim around the outter part of the leaf.
i got it from a tree in sanbernardino, california.
the leaf is bright green.
please help! any guesses will help immensly.
i have to write a report for my bio class

If I guess that it's a sitka spruce will that still help?
Seriously, there's way too many possibilities considering california has trees from all over the world in cultivation. Consider scanning in the leaf at the very least.

Thanks.. i'll use that name lol. the prof. said that as long as we get a name for the leaf (whether it is the real name or not) we'll be good. he laughed and said that he has no way of proving us wrong, so that name will work just fine.

Tell him it's Rhus radicans 'variegata'
That's actually a cultivar of poison ivy with variegated leaves.
