i recently purchased the weeping willow and have a question. how long will it take for it to start "looking" like a weeping willow? how many years are we talking?

Depends on how old it is now. usually it gets its weeping look between 2 and 5 years. Until then it really doesnt have enough branches to weep. Its really the leaves that weep, compund leaves that get long and give the tree its traditional wepping look.
Here is some info about the tree.
