I have a question:

How do you tell a Western White Pine from an Eastern White Pine?

In my area we have some of each and i would like to know how to effectively identify them. What are some distinguishing characteristics (needles, bark, etc) to tell the difference? Ive looked up some of the characteristics, but its so hard to apply them to a tree, because the two trees are so similar.

If anyone has experience with both of these trees, it would be greatly appriciated if you helped me.

Thank you,

The scales on the cones of the Eastern White Pine are thin and flexible and the cones of the Western White Pine are 8-11 inches long and somewhat larger than the Eastern cones.
