I have a winter damaged cherry tree. We are working to reshape it, so far so good. It has started "bleeding" sap from many places on the bark. I can't find any insects causing this. Any ideas ?

Being in drought stressed Colorado, there are restrictions to new planting and don't want to lose the tree.

You may have peach tree borers. If you notice sawdust and sap on the ground around the trunk, then that would be them. They are the most destructive pests of stone-fruit trees in your state.
Please contact your county extension office about which types of controls are recommended in your state.
